Data Engineer (Expression of Interest)

About Multitudes

Multitudes provides insights and recommendations to unlock happier, higher-performing teams. We measure teamwork & inclusion from the software tools that teams already use to collaborate at work. We raised a $2.4M NZD seed round of investment led by Blackbird VC, and we recently launched our beta product.

The role

We are accepting expressions of interest for a Mid to Senior data engineer to help us accelerate the delivery of useful insights to our analytics dashboard. You’ll work on expanding, improving, and maintaining our data pipeline that ingests and transforms data from integrations into beautifully organised schemas. You’ll also help build other backend architecture as required such as our data APIs. Our ideal candidate is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion at work, and excited about supporting our bigger mission – making equity the default at work.

Key responsibilities

  • Expanding, improving, and maintaining our pyspark and python data pipelines (running on AWS ECS and Glue)
  • Working closely with our backend developers to surface the data in our APIs
  • Ensuring best practices are followed in regards to the development, deployment, testing, and maintenance of data infrastructure
  • Collaborating with data scientists and developers to create a delightful data platform experience that is easy to use, well documented, performant, and reliable
  • Advocating for the ethical use of data, ensuring that our data systems work to serve the best interests of the owners of the data (our customers and their employees)
  • Live our values

Core skills

  • Proficiency in python programming and its data libraries (pandas, numpy and/or pyspark)
  • Experience wrangling data in distributed data processing platforms (such as Hadoop or Spark)
  • Solid foundations in clean coding and code quality, including setting up and using unit tests, integration tests, end-to-end tests
  • Creative, adaptable, and eager to learn

Nice to have
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud providers
  • Familiarity with ETL tools like AWS Glue or Airflow
  • Experience with terraform or other infrastructure as code tools
  • Knowledge of CI/CD frameworks and concepts (e.g., TeamCity, Concourse, CircleCI)
  • Knowledge of REST APIs, their design and what powers them (e.g. postgreSQL, DynamoDB)
  • Experience with Github and/or Slack APIs

What we provide

  • Flexible working conditions with remote work options (provided there is a minimum 4 hour work day overlap with your team)
  • Supportive, diverse, and dynamic team environment
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion – regular learning & discussions about how we can do this better
  • Opportunity to be a part of an early-stage startup that’s dedicated to making the human side of work more visible and valued
  • A meaningful equity share in Multitudes
  • Occasional board games!
